German pianist Moritz Winkelmann has been praised by audiences and critics alike for his enormous range of expression and pianistic facility. He performs around the globe as a soloist and chamber musician, and his playing has been lauded in the Mannheimer Morgen as possessing “resilience and compelling sound balance.”

 

Mr. Winkelmann has performed with many orchestras in both Europe and the United States. Among them are the Beethoven Orchester Bonn under the baton of Stefan Blunier, Philharmonic Orchestra of the Theater of Lower Saxony, the Mannheim and Varna Philharmonic Orchestras, the Kurpfalz Chamber Orchestra, and the Camerata Academica Freiburg. Mr. Winkelmann has also appeared with the Peabody Symphony Orchestra under the direction of renowned musician Leon Fleisher.

 

Mr. Winkelmann made his New York debut in Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall in 2010. He has undertaken tours of Bulgaria, Denmark, France, Italy, Scotland, China, and the United States, and appeared at the prestigious Rheingau, Schwetzingen and Schleswig-Holstein festivals. As a musician with a deep commitment to chamber music, Mr. Winkelmann has also participated in Music@Menlo and the Ravinia Festival’s Steans Music Institute. He has shared the stage with Itzhak Perlman, Wolfram Christ and Leon Fleisher.

 

Mr. Winkelmann’s musical prowess has garnered him prizes in numerous competitions. Most recently, he was awarded Third Prize at the International Telekom Beethoven Competition in Bonn. He has been awarded first prize at the Harrison L. Winter Competition in Baltimore, the Richard Laugs Piano Competition in Mannheim, the Baden-Württemberg Tone-Artist Competition and at the Mannheim National Theater Mozart Competition. In addition, he was awarded the Mozart Prize by the Mozart Society in Stuttgart.

 

He is a founding member of the Sheridan Piano Trio, which was formed at The Ravinia Festival’s renowned Steans Music Institute. The Trio made its New York orchestral debut in December 2014 performing the Beethoven Triple Concerto with the Doctors Orchestral Society of New York. In the 2015/2016 concert season, the Trio will appear with the New York Classical Players playing Martinu’s Triple Concerto.

 

Born in Stuttgart in 1984, Mr. Winkelmann began his piano studies at the age of six under the tutelage of his grandfather, esteemed pianist and conductor Gerhard Wilhelm. He earned his Bachelor‘s Degree from the University of Music and Performing Arts in Mannheim, where he studied with Michael Hauber. Mr. Winkelmann currently resides in Bern, Switzerland where he is a faculty member at the Konservatorium Bern.
