In this unique program of chamber music for flute and strings, we explore several lesser known works by musical legends Mozart and Beethoven. We’ll play two of the four quartets that Mozart wrote for flute, violin, viola and cello. The cheery Quartet in D Major was part of a commission written when Mozart was but twenty-one and needing money to continue a tour through Europe. The short Quartet in A Major was written later, and is more eloquent with its haunting melodies. By contract, Beethoven’s Serenade is a collection of six dance movements that could have been played as popular dance music in Vienna around its composition in 1801.
